This article presents the results of a study carried out on the importance of financial education for young people from peripheral areas, public school students, with the approach of sustainable consumption and social entrepreneurship as a career possibility. The research was carried out with high school students at Colégio Estadual Prof. José de Souza Marques, located near to the Quitungo community, in the Brás de Pina neighborhood, in the Rio de Janeiro city. After the end of the workshops, qualitative research was carried out with the purpose of verifying prior knowledge and the need for financial education for students and their families. Based on the results of the interviews and analyzes carried out, the web application “Dindim Papo Reto” was developed, making it possible to evaluate how useful this entire process was in the classroom, which corroborates the importance of approaching financial education at school, even more in periods of crisis such as the COVID-19 pandemic, providing new perspectives for students and their families and focusing on local development. All the content of the workshops, the interview and the tool were developed in a language accessible to young people, seeking a closer relationship with students.
