This study aimed to propose alternatives to stimulate the strengthening of the relationship between agricultural cooperatives and rural producers in the state of Rio Grande do Sul (RS). The research method adopted involved a qualitative, exploratory study conducted by means in-depth individual interviews with a semi-structured approach. The content analysis technique was employed for data analysis. For that, the main reasons that led rural producers to join a cooperative were analyzed, along with an understanding of the factors that kept them in this association over time. Understanding these motivations was crucial for improving the relationship and retention of these members. Additionally, a comparative analysis of perceptions regarding the benefits of association was proposed, considering both the perspective of cooperatives and rural producers. The study also identified the expectations and potential demands of younger rural producers, representing the new generations entering agricultural activities. Finally, the study provided concrete guidance to strengthen the relationships between agricultural cooperatives and rural producers in the state. By means this study, therefore, it was possible to contribute to the strengthening and improvement of existing relationships between agricultural cooperatives and rural producers, fostering a more sustainable and collaborative environment for the economic development of the state of RS.
