Abstract

O período pré-operatório significa para o paciente um momento em que surgem muitos conflitos e que gera muita
ansiedade. Sendo a orientação uma das funções do enfermeiro, este trabalho tem como objetivo relatar sobre a
importância das orientações do enfermeiro para o paciente no período pré-operatório. Trata-se de um relato de experiência vivenciado por uma acadêmica de enfermagem durante atividades desenvolvidas no período de fevereiro e abril de 2011 na Unidade de Clínica Cirúrgica do Hospital Universitário de Santa Maria. Evidenciou-se que a utilização de materiais ilustrativos e bonecos proporcionam  ao paciente um melhor entendimento do que será feito em seu corpo, minimizando o medo e proporcionando uma melhor compreensão sobre sua saúde/doença e sobre o procedimento cirúrgico a que será submetido. A garantia do sucesso de qualquer intervenção de enfermagem pode ser atribuída à maneira pela qual são atendidas as demandas físicas, emocionais, sociais e espirituais do paciente.
