Abstract

Qual a relação entre Desenvolvimento Regional, enquanto uma área de saber, e os meios de comunicação, em especial, a imprensa? Com base nesta questão, este trabalho tem por objetivo iniciar uma discussão que visa relacionar a chamada “grande imprensa” com a área do Desenvolvimento Regional, averiguando uma possível influência desta no tocante aos rumos e escolhas de padrões de desenvolvimento. Para tanto, descrevemos num primeiro momento a gênese do pensamento regional e sua introdução no Brasil a partir dos Programas de Pós-Graduação. O intuito é mapear os Programas de Pós-Graduação existentes no país e verificar se neles a imprensa tem sido ou já foi alvo de pesquisas em nível de mestrado ou doutorado. Num segundo momento, abordaremos algumas possibilidades metodológicas para o estudo com a imprensa escrita. Nossa análise concluiu que, enquanto a mídia foi criada para disseminar a comunicação livre e franca entre as pessoas, gradualmente ela fortaleceu-se e tornou-se peça institucional basilar em qualquer sociedade democrática enquanto arquiteta de subjetividades e formadora de opinião. Dessa forma, ela ganhou relevância política e força econômica, assumindo papel ativo na formação e desenvolvimento das regiões.
