Between spaces and meanings: The influence of architectural heritage on the urban cultural landscape

The cultural landscape comprises the analysis of the dynamic integration between society and nature, in which architectural heritage provides uniqueness to the territory by reflecting the historical interaction between human beings and the natural environment. In this sense, the research seeks to reflect on the role of architectural heritage in the constitution of the urban cultural landscape, based on four previously defined analytical axes: Collective Identity, Articulation between Time and Space, Historical Testimony, and Symbolic and Aesthetic Value. Methodologically, the study adopts a qualitative approach grounded in bibliographic review and documentary analysis, using categorical content analysis for data interpretation. From these four axes, the scope of the research focuses on analyzing the role of architectural heritage in shaping the urban cultural landscape in Brazilian cities, considering its multiple dimensions. As for the results, it is observed that architectural heritage, when integrated into the urban cultural landscape, directly influences the perception and appropriation of space, functioning as an element of social cohesion and symbolic reference. The interrelation between spaces and meanings proves fundamental for the constitution of valued cities, in which the recognition and preservation of cultural heritage contribute to strengthening the sense of belonging and collective identity.
