Women and rural management: A study on the perception of family farmers and livestock producers in the pampa gaúcho

A topic widely discussed today, the role of women in conducting rural activities, has gained notoriety in Brazil and around the world. Every day data is presented that demonstrates that there is no space or profession that women cannot access. This study aimed to analyze the perception of family farmers and ranchers in Pampa Gaúcho about their role in rural management, identifying the challenges faced and the strategies adopted to overcome obstacles. Eleven women who reside in rural areas and play a prominent role in the management of their properties were interviewed. Interviewees were contacted using the key informant method. Methodologically, this article is based on qualitative research, the data was analyzed through content analysis. The main results express that difficulties such as prejudice, lack of recognition, and overload of responsibilities, on the other hand, reflect the persistence of cultural and structural barriers. However, the resilience and ability of these professional women to overcome obstacles and seek solutions to the problems they face daily also stand out.
