The acting of the social assistant in the municipal area of the single social assistance in the Region Centro Serra/RS

The main objective of this article is to understand the reality of social workers in the Centro Serra/RS region and their role in the face of social assistance policy through the SUAS (Single Social Assistance System). For this, a descriptive and exploratory research with a qualitative approach was carried out with social workers who work in a period between 6 and 10 years in the municipalities of this region. The results show that there is a weakening in the availability of professionals to address social demands, causing overload of the professionals involved. Likewise, it is possible to observe the lack of financial resources to meet the diversity of situations, in addition to a lack of knowledge of the social assistance policy operated through the SUAS, compromising its full functioning, together with health and education policies, which form the tripod of social security. But despite this adverse context, citizens are provided with qualified care, guaranteeing their well-being and autonomy to achieve their rights.
