This article aims to investigate how the theme of innovation in the public sector, understanding the sector as the environment of the civil service, has been configured in the field of scientific production in the area of Administration in the last 10 years in Brazil. Methodologically, an exploratory and descriptive research, with a mixed approach, was carried out, based on a survey of the state of the art in the literature in scientific journals indexed in the Web of Science, Scopus, SciELO and SPELL databases, using procedures bibliometrics. The results show a significant growth in terms of research interest on the topic at hand. In addition, they highlight topics such as open innovation, innovation in management, innovation based on ICTs, innovations in services and exploratory studies on innovation. Through the findings, it was possible to identify gaps in studies on topics such as the use of hackathons in public organizations, institutional innovations of a participatory nature and innovation in public procurement. Thus, this research contributes to the characterization of scientific productions, the presentation of the main topics discussed and the directions for advancing research on innovation in the Brazilian public sector in the field of Administration.
