This article aimed to investigate the perspectives of young people from the West of Santa Catarina who work in agriculture in relation to family succession. It addresses the expectations and challenges they face, with a questionnaire, applied to 215 young people linked to 04 educational institutions and three other groups that are coordinated by EPAGRI / CEPAF (Agricultural Research and Technology Diffusion Company of Santa Catarina / Centro de Family Agriculture Research), between November 2016 and September 2018. The choice of entities happened because they are linked to the rural environment and the questionnaire was applied during lectures in extension activities. The research participants are children of farmers from western Santa Catarina aged between 14 and 29 years. With the research it was possible to show that young people show a strong interest in continuing to undertake in agriculture, persevering in family business as a life project, indicating good prospects for succession in family farming.
