The relationship between interfamily environment, illicit drug abuse and prison recidivism

Abstract

Introduction: The use of psychoactive substances occurs since antiquity and, given the social changes, it is noticed that the understanding of this phenomenon began to follow such transformations. Objective: To demonstrate that the precariousness of family dynamics can influence the early consumption of alcohol and illicit drugs and, finally, the involvement in criminal activities, turning these aspects into risk factors for insertion and reintegration in the prison system. Method: Qualitative phenomenological study, four (04) detainees were selected in prisons in the capital of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, all of them male, abusers of illicit drugs and recidivists in the prison system. It was applied an interview model with a form with one questioning and considered for analysis the interpretation and understanding of the phenomenon in the perspective of the user of illicit drugs deprived of freedom. Results: It was shown that the precariousness of the interfamily dynamics, outlined by the abusive consumption of alcohol, by constant episodes of violence, neglect or abandonment and may even be present in an overlapping manner, can significantly influence the increasingly precocious consumption of illicit drugs and, consequently, the practice of criminal activities that lead to the insertion and reintegration in the prison system. Conclusion: The issue of abusive consumption of illicit drugs in prison environments requires advances for the expansion of the rights of people who are deprived of freedom through specific strategies, such as legal regulations and policies aimed at this public.
