MORTALIDADE POR CÂNCER NO MUNICÍPIO DE SANTO AUGUSTO/RS: Traçando o Perfil Epidemiológico

No presente estudo foi realizada uma pesquisa quantitativa,descritiva, epidemiológica, documental e retrospectiva, para descrever o perfil epidemiológico das pessoas que foram a óbito por câncer no município de Santo Augusto/RS, no período de 1996 a 2004. A amostra constitui-se de 154 declarações de óbitos com esta causa mortis. Pelos registros foi possível analisar as variáveis idade, raça, sexo, ocupação, estado civil, local de ocorrência dos óbitos e localização da neoplasia. Os resultados mostram que Santo Augusto apresenta uma porcentagem mais elevada de mortes por câncer quando comparada com o Estado do Rio Grande do Sul. A faixa etária mais acometida é de 61 a 75 anos, sendo a idade média de 68 anos. Predominam entre os registros de óbitos pessoas de raça branca, sexo masculino e baixa escolaridade. Quanto ao estado civil e ocupação, a maioria era de casados e aposentados, respectivamente. Em relação ao local de ocorrência dos óbitos, a maioria ocorreu em hospitais. No que se refere à localização da neoplasia, o pulmão aparece como o local mais acometido, seguido do câncer de próstata, estômago e colo de útero como as mais prevalentes.
