Deaf women's perceptions about care in the health system from pregnancy to puerperium

Objective: To understand the perception of deaf women about care in the health system during the prenatal, childbirth and postpartum process. Methodology: A descriptive field study with a qualitative approach, carried out with nine deaf women who were followed up at the health services during the aforementioned periods. Data collection took place through an online platform, recorded in audio and video. To organize the information, thematic analysis is used. Results: The results show that throughout the pregnancy-puerperal cycle there is the presence of a communication barrier, disclosed in the failure to promote care, where these women need a third person as an interlocutor due to the lack of professional interpreters in health institutions. Conclusion: The lack of accessibility for deaf women during care at health services puts them in a position of fragility, in which they become even more vulnerable because they do not receive comprehensive care by health professionals.
